What is a Clinical Dental Technician
A Clinical Dental Technician is a modern addition the dental team.
This new dynamic role is a fusion of two previously separate roles—That of a dentist and a Dental Technician. The result is a highly skilled professional who has crossover skills that a Dentist or a Technician alone does not possess. To qualify as a Clinical Dental Technician requires years of intensive postgraduate study and examination through various modules, for example; science, clinical skills, ethics and law, advanced denture construction, case studies. Their position allows them to offer patients, for the first time, direct treatment for the construction, repairing and fitting of removable dental appliances. Clinical Dental Technicians and Dentists often work independently of each other but they often discuss treatment plans when it is in the best interest of the patient.
What can they offer you?
Whilst most commonly consulted by denture patients, Clinical Dental Technicians can offer a wide range of services, including advice on oral health. Along with performing technical and clinical procedures for removable dental appliances, they can carry out intensive clinical examinations to search for oral abnormalities and refer patients to other healthcare professionals where necessary.
